Moving Checklist
Months before you move.
Get a surveying solicitor.
Arrange your mortgage.
Research your area for info regarding local news and facilities.
Transfer children’s school records and order new uniform etc.
If you’re renting then confirm your moving date with your landlord. Get valuable possessions assessed for insurance and check that your insurance policy will cover your move, if not your removals company should be able to provide cover. Get it early to avoid any complications.
Purchase a journal or file your documents and notes on your move- include to do list, important numbers, dates and details of conversations.
6 weeks before you move.
Not long left little over a month and a half, so get rid of all unwanted items and all items that aren’t going to fit in your new property, this will help you clear the decks for your removal company so they are only moving the items you actually need, it will also make your removal cheaper!
1 month before you move.
Make sure your chartered surveyor has inspected your new property and has informed you of its structural condition, also talk to your solicitor about the exchange of contracts and finalising your removal date, so as you can organise your removal company and any arrangements permits for parking and any access problems.
2 weeks before your move.
Confirm all dates and contact details with your removal company and your estate agent. Also make sure you have advised your removal company of any disassemble or un-plumbing and any packing details or issues. If you have children make sure they are being looked after on your moving day so everything runs smoothly. Organise sitters. Finalise all details deposits and moving details with your removals company.
Check your medication is sufficient whilst your removal is taking place. Dispose of gases and flammable liquids as your removal firm cannot move these items. Cancel all services you receive and settle any outstanding bills, window cleaners , papers etc. Run down all freezer food items and perishables.
1 Week before you move.
Organise a important documents and store safely and organise your boxes with markets on important ones. Make sure all packing is either done it nearly finished.
1 day before your move.
24 hours to go, run final checks, pack night bags if needed and don’t forget to fully charge your mobile phone. The day of your move. Emotions will be running high take a break and try and plan your morning so it runs smoothly , take meter readings for your providers and leave keys for new owner
After you have moved.
Preparation and stress are over feel comfortable in your new surroundings and get settled in. Celebrate with family and order a take away there’s entry of time to unpack . Congratulate yourself it’s over and you’ve done your job!
